Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma Organization International ("ACCOI") is an all‑volunteer nonprofit organization formed to further research and awareness of this rare cancer by:

§      Maintaining a website with information about ACC at: http://www.accoi.org

§      Maintaining a free email Information Group where ACC patients and caregivers share information about ACC. You can join at:

http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/Adenoid_Cystic_Carcinoma_Organization/

§      Providing an online Doctors’ Forum. This online forum is for doctors only, and offers doctors interested in ACC an opportunity to share information about treatment and research. Doctors who would like to join the ACCOI Doctors’ Forum should send an email to accoi_info@yahoo.com with the following information: Name, title, email address and hospital affiliation.

§      Funding ACC research. Because ACC is rare, pharmaceutical companies do not find it economically feasible to fund research for ACC. Large nonprofit cancer organizations do not fund research for ACC. Therefore, ACC patients, their friends and families must help to raise funds for research. In addition to finding new ACC research, we have helped to fund the molecular analysis of adenoid cystic carcinoma at the University of Virginia. This project aims at pinpointing the areas where damaged ACC genes reside. Once these areas are identified, it could lead to the creation of drugs that target ACC specifically.  But we can’t pin all of our hopes on any one research project. We need to continue to search for valid research which may eventually lead to a cure. And once promising research is found, such as the molecular analysis project, we must continue to help fund it.

§      Providing education through the ACCOI website and informational sheets.
